Jo Cosme

Jo Cosme, a Native Boricua, multimedia artist, was displaced from Borikén/Puerto Rico to Seattle a year after Hurricane María. Shocked by North Americans’ ignorance of the archipelago, she creates work that provokes reflection on U.S. imperialism, disaster capitalism, and neocolonialism.

Cosme holds a BFA in photography from PR’s School of Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited at Museo de las Américas (PR), Whatcom Museum, and Galerie Rivoli 59 (Paris), to name a few. In 2021, she received the Puerto Rican Artist Fellowship at MASS MoCA’s A4A Residency, followed by Artist Trust’s GAP grant in 2022. Most recently, she was awarded Pratt Fine Arts Center’s Bernie Funk Artist Scholarship, Seattle’s City Artist grant, McMillen Foundation’s 2023 Fellowship, and was named a 4Culture Arc Fellow. She also received the Anderson Ranch Residency Scholarship and is exhibiting her new work at Gallery 110, opening June 2025, and ARTS at King Street Station in November of the same year.
