Women (& men) Out of Line: exploring the figure as metaphor
Deborah Curtiss
East Gallery
January 2 - February 2, 2019
Curtiss, explores a unique and alluring synthesis of drawing and painting on unprimed linen canvases, most of which are “trapezial”: four sides of unequal length. With no edge a true vertical or horizontal, she awakens realities that lie beyond the obvious.
The figure drawings are inspired by old masters which are superimposed with images from city planning and/or the built environment. The names of the paintings are derived from 3-letter permutations from the phrase ars longa (art is/lives long/forever).
